What you'll learn
Earn your medical coding certification with this Comprehensive Medical Coding Certification microcredential! Key to success in medical coding is knowing common medical terms and having a basic understanding of human biology, the essential functions and diseases and current health topics that drive medical diagnosis. With this microcredential you will gain a strong foundation in both areas. You will be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms and also recognize "root" words, prefixes, and suffixes that support your learning of new terms as they arise. You will be able to accurately apply CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for patient encounters and services, list current coding guidelines, and enter codes onto forms and into electronic billing systems to ensure optimum reimbursement. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study, to take and successfully pass AAPC's (American Academy of Professional Coders) Certified Professional Coding Exam, and to immediately apply for coding positions across healthcare settings.
