What you'll learn
Just as your support is vital to the children you serve, this Child Development microcredential supports you in continuing to building your skills, knowledge and experience! You will understand how children learn and grow and how teachers create safe and healthy environments. You will study best practices in social emotional development, and be able to assess and advance infant/toddler development. You will gain experience with program development and developmentally appropriate activity design. A structured practicum experience at your employer will allow you to apply what you are learning in practice. Modeled after the requirements of the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, part of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, this microcredential prepares those currently working in the field of early childhood education who are looking to earn college credits while simultaneously being supported through the process of preparing to earn their CDA (Child Development Associate) Certificate for Professional Recognition. Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study, to complete the CDA assessment process, and to immediately apply for child care associate positions. Note: You must be currently employed in the field of early education in order to earn the 480 required fieldwork hours and in order to complete the practicum component of the courses).
