What you'll learn
This Medical Coding 2 and Documentation Standards microcredential is the second in a two-microcredential series designed to help you launch your medical coding career. Building on lessons learned in the Medical Coding 1 and EHR basics microcredential (linked below), you will understand reimbursement methodologies for different healthcare settings including accurate outpatient and physician-side coding, using Current Procedural Terminology for medical services and procedures. You will learn how to calculate ambulatory payment classifications (APCs) as well as best practices for ensuring legal and coding compliance and accuracy, as well as processes for physician queries and managing denials. Successful completion of the microcredential series readies you to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders Certified Professional Coder exam and to immediately apply for medical coding positions.
